The Millbrook Experience

The "Millbrook Experience" is one of our most popular high performance driving courses.  It allows owners of performance and super cars (or any car!!) some freedom to drive and enjoy the vehicle at its best. Spending 2 full hours driving at Millbrook Proving Ground, which is set in over 700 acres of the Bedfordshire countryside and the home of 5th Gear, it is a fantastic venue that will set your pulse racing! The many different driving areas test different aspects of a drivers skill and ability and allow our instructors to work on teaching and perfecting your skills in a controlled and safe driving environment that can take you to new heights of driving excellence, skill and overall ability.

A high performance vehicle these days is a specialist and increasingly complex piece of machinery. The product of extensive testing, often to the limit and sometimes beyond when in the hands of some of the worlds top test drivers. During the course you can experience some of the tests and test areas that are used to develop modern vehicles. At the same time you can learn about how your vehicles technology works and what it can and can't do, aswell as what you can do and maybe can't do? when driving it.

At all times you will be accompanied by a highly qualified and experienced driving consultant who will be your host for the duration of the course, you will be guided not only around this immense Bedfordshire facility but also taught how to gain the best from your vehicle, aswell as being introduced to the best driving skills and practices.

Discuss with your instructor on the day which areas you want to focus on most, here are some of the more common driving technique topics we have covered in the past and are waiting to coach you in - Oversteer (Lift off, Power on, Gear down, Trail braking) - Understeer, (Power on, Harsh steering, speed) and all causes & cures for either. Heel & Toe, Left foot braking, Trail Braking, Sustained rev gear changing, Vehicle balance. Steering techniques - Pull-Push, Rotational, Fixed input, Steer one way but going the other? Balance of throttle & Steering.

With the Alpine route, ABS emergency braking area, High speed bowl, Handling circuit, Steering Pad (with the figure of 8 Grip handling zone!) and recently resurfaced Mile straight all being available to be utilised as required* you will be able to gain valuable experience of these challenging roads & test areas, aswell as experience things maybe never attempted before in your own vehicle, and at the same time have an enjoyable, memorable and exciting driving experience!

Read what our customers, who have recently attended the Millbrook Experience at Millbrook Proving Ground, have to say about the course.

"The 2hr Millbrook Experience was excellent. Firstly Millbrook itself is like an Aladdin’s cave of driving experiences, the Bowl offering the chance to test your own nerve and have your own personal “Stig” sat next to you positively reinforcing you to trust the car, even when your own nerve and self doubt is encouraging the reverse behaviour"

"It was not long before Jeremy had my full confidence, the tell, show, do approach illustrating his knowledge and experience on every aspect of the varied course. I was suprised at how beneficial the techniques i learned enhance every day driving. Its not about belting around a track, its all about balance and control"  Stephen - Birmingham

"The Alpine course is awesome, adverse camber, blind crests, spine compressing corners"

"We did enjoy the experience it was good to learn the way the cars behave when pushed and it was fun to boot!"  Peter - Brighton

"Awesome demonstration of how to drive with the throttle, car balance and corner approach angles"

"The Handling Circuit, quite frankly I could have spent hours on there alone, each lap refining and enhancing my own performance"

"2 of the most fun, informative hours I have spent in years, I will be back, without question, if you enjoy driving, think your pretty good, go there, you will come away knowing so much more about why you are actually not that good, and where you need to improve, but with a beaming smile on your face"

This is Fantastic!
Twisty Alpine Route

Alpine Handling Course (Hill Route)

As the name suggests this is like driving in the Swiss mountains, a whole range of different camber bends, brows and dips test car and driver in the art of control. All 3 loops are put to good use, working on steering and throttle control these being some of the most important control elements in the make up of a good driver. Here they can be tried and tested to perfection, with progression to gear changing, balanced braking and even heel and toe. An invaluable experience in its self for any driver who loves the open road.

A weird sensation on the banking!
Banked Bends

High Speed Bowl (High Speed Circuit)

Driving at high speed requires more than just nerve, an understanding of how the vehicle is affected by high speeds is essential. Spoilers, tyres and conditions have a massive affect on a vehicle when travelling at speeds in excess of 100 mph.  This can be experienced and understood fully with the opportunity to test both car and driver’s high speed and performance to extremes. It’s also a great place to look at vehicle balance and start to appreciate the effect that throttle changes have on a vehicles steering.

More smiles per mile than any other circuit!
Handling Circuit

Handling Circuit (Outer Handling Circuit)

The ability to handle a car with confidence and control is something to behold when in the hands of a professional. But how can this level be achieved? Understanding and practice are two steps in the right direction. A short yet challenging circuit allows drivers of all abilities to develop and achieve a greater understanding of car control.

Its straight and flat!
One mile long!

Mile Straight (Measured One Mile Straight)

The dead straight Mile Straight allows for concentration to be applied to gear changing along with controlled acceleration and braking techniques.  ABS can be put to the test to gain invaluable experience of it's abilities in action. Exactly measured a mile long its also a great place to test that 0-60 time.
